Matching subjects to predicates clarifies these sentence components and helps students to identify and write complete sentences and to avoid run-on sentences.

There are 15 sets of Subject & Predicate Match manipulatives. Each set contains 10 subjects and 10 predicates. The student must first identify the subjects (the part of the sentence about which something is told) and the predicates (the part that tells something about the subject), sorting the cards into two groups. Since initial capitalization and final punctuation would be signals, these are omitted. Next the subjects are matched to the predicates to form sentences. Students see how the two parts of each sentence communicate a complete thought. They learn facts and trivia as they read the sentences.

PDF pages are designed to be printed on 8.5 x 11 inch sheets. Cover-weight paper in a variety of colors is available at office supply stores or online. Lamination is recommended if you want your materials to last.

All Reading Manipulatives pieces have a code that is used for maintaining set integrity and student recordkeeping. Checklists are provided for tracking the materials that have been completed. Put student sets in zipper bags. Answer keys can be kept in the bags or stored separately.
